Old Caesarea - Israel - September 2006 : Pictures from a visit to Caesarea - So, what's so special about Caesarea you ask? Aside from the impressive ruins, here is a short summary of the city's hectic history:
Caesarea was first built as an ancient Sidoney city, Migdal Sharshoon. Later, around 90 B.C. it was conquered by Alexander Yanai. Later on in history, Caesar Augustus gave it as a present to Hordes which built a big, luxurious and heavily forted city that he named "Caesarea" on behalf of the Caesar. At the Roman period it was the largest city in the land and the sit of the Roman governor. It habitated a mix of Jews, Greeks and Syrian habitants that from time to time quarreled among themselves. At one of this quarrels around 66 B.C. started the big rebellion against the Roman empire. Around 640 A.D. the Arabs conquered the city and continued to flourish up to the conquer of the crusaders, around 1107 A.D. 80 years later, Salah A-Din conquered it back and demolished it to rubble only so the Crusaders would re-built it at the start of the 13th century. Around the mid of that same century the Mamluki Sultan Bibres conquered it from the Crusaders and five years later it was demolished completely by the Sultan El-Sharf so to avoid any future strategic invasion from the sea, and so the city remained demolished up to the day the ruins were uncovered (following the independence war).

Masada - Israel - November 2006 : The trip to Masada was with my good friend, Oz, and was a 2 day trip. First day we slept close to the entrance to the site and before dawn started our ascent to the massive and impressive ruins of Masada. Was quite amazing!

Simply put, Masada is a 450 meter plateau that rose and broke from the fault escarpment, and as such, stands alone as a close isle to the main cliff array. The Masadsa mountain is confined on it's eastern side by the shores of the ever shrinking Dead sea, on it's southern side by the Masada Wadi and on it's western side by Wadi Ben Yair - at the north wing a wide plain is stretched along the shores all the way to the northern part of the Dead Sea.
There are basically two ways to reach the mountain: either via the west wing, which takes advantage of the almost 2000 year old ramp the Romans built or via the eastern wing in which a path snakes up in a series of looping stretches (hence it's name, "The Snake Path") - in both cases, the park's confinement have open camping sites on both sides, the western is more comfortable and have hygiene facilities. Me and my friend decided to do the Snake Path, thus camped at the open and barren camping site on the eastern side.

"Talking Chairs" at Ramat Gan's National Park - Israel - October 2007 : The "Talking Chair" open art exhibition at the Ramat Gan's National Park is one that shines really nice, especially on such a lovely day at the start of October (Israel's October, that is). Some 100 atists, celebrates and anonymous took their creative side and displayed their own artistic mind beside the wide paths of the national park. I selected the ones that talked to me, that I felt the need to capture and preserve - mind that many pictures here display only a part of the whole creation, a part that I felt represent the art itself.
I also took some pictures of the lovely park, just couldn't resist the temptation!
PS - sorry for the Hebrew captions, it is just too much of a fuss to actually translate into plain English...

Trip to Besor region, South of Israel - 20-10-07 :

טיולים "רווקים" שיצאנו אליו שחר, יובל ואני בחבל הבשור, צפון הנגב לקראת החתונה הקרבה של שחר. הטיול היה בסימן בע"ח באופן מסוים, וכבר בתחילתו עשינו "בוק" לבנות יענה בחוות יענים לא רחוקה מהכניסה לפארק. בכל מקרה, היה מהנה ועשיר בהזדמנויות צילומיות!

We went out on a "bachelor" trip Shahar, Yuval and Me,in the Besor region, north of the Negev for the upcoming wedding of Shahar. The trip was dominatated somewhat with wildlife, as at the start of it we came across a Ostrich farm and did a "book" for the local Ostrich. We had quite a time!
